COVID-19 is still prevalent and one solution that the Philippine government believes is vaccination. Programs are being conducted everywhere and a significant number of people, including celebrities, have been campaigning and encouraging the citizens to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Understandably, others are still hesitant due to various reasons; current health conditions, type/brand of vaccine available and pregnancy.

One of the celebrities who are vocal about their vaccination story is Neri Miranda. She is currently pregnant, and as what she fondly refers to herself as “Wais na Misis”, she can’t help but share her experience.

In her Instagram post, Neri detailed her vaccination journey from the type of vaccine she received to the signs and symptoms she felt after the first and second dose. She also encouraged other expectant mothers to consult their Ob-Gyne before receiving the vaccine and listen to the doctors because they know best.

Additionally, here’s what the experts say “Melanie Swift, M.D., COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation and Distribution, Mayo Clinic: Pregnant women should be offered the vaccine, and that is not just my opinion, that’s the opinion of the American College of Gynecology and that’s the opinion of the society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine. These are experts and taking care of pregnant mothers, and they believe that women should be offered these vaccines. They really want to protect pregnant women from having severe outcomes from COVID-19.

Pregnant women are at increased risk for bad outcomes when they get COVID-19 and even if they’re healthy, the pregnancy itself makes them susceptible to some of the complications. So pregnant women are more likely to have severe COVID-19 and more likely to be hospitalized, and any severe illness in pregnancy increases the risk to the outcome of the pregnancy.” (source: https://www.mayoclinic.org/should-pregnant-women-be-vaccinated-for-COVID-19-19/vid-20511503)
