After spending much of his earlier showbiz career in ABS-CBN, award-winning actor John Lloyd Cruz is now officially a Kapuso, and was announced Tuesday, November 9, 2021. He said “Napakalaking bagay na nakahanap kami ng tahanan sa GMA.”
Also present at the contract signing was Director Edgar “Bobot” Mortiz, who will be part of John Lloyd’s new show on GMA-7 titled “Happy Together,” where the actor will also serve as a creative director.
Among the Kapuso stars who left a welcome video message for the actor include Gabbi Garcia, Barbie Forteza, Sanya Lopez, Ruru Madrid, Julie Anne San Jose, Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, AiAi delas Alas, Pokwang, Andrea Torres, and Bea Alonzo Among others.
Crown Artist Management (CAM) Chief Executive Officer Rambo Nuñez Ortega said the signing is as an exciting one for the actor. CAM, co-owned by Rambo’s girlfriend, actress Maja Salvador, is the agency handling John Lloyd’s showbiz career.
“The management is excited in many ways because this is a first between JLC, CAM and GMA. Just the idea of putting together a project that his fans have been waiting for is something that is really worth anticipating,” Rambo said. “We are looking forward to a fruitful relationship and also help each other produce quality projects together.”
John Lloyd, 38, is considered to be among the top actors in the country. He first rose to fame in the late 2000s as a talent of ABS-CBN’s Star Magic. He starred in numerous hit ABS-CBN shows, including Tabing Ilog, It Might Be You, Maging Sino Ka Man, and Imortal. The actor last top-billed the 2017 film Finally Found Someone with Sarah Geronimo before he took an “indefinite leave of absence” from showbiz in October 2017. He and actress Ellen Adarna welcomed their son in 2018. Since then, he has rarely made public appearances. He played a small role in the December 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Culion. In February 2020, it was revealed that John Lloyd was set to star in Servando Magdamag, a film directed by Lav Diaz and penned by Ricky Lee.
GMA had earlier teased that an award-winning actor would be joining its roster of talents. The network has yet to announce John Lloyd’s upcoming projects.
