Another superb landmark will soon be added in Cebu as the yet-to-be longest bridge-way structure in the Philippines, CCLEX, moves closer to connecting the gap which is now at a five-meter distance. The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) will be the third bridge connecting mainland Cebu to Mactan.
“Good News! The gap on the main bridge deck of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) is now just 5 meters. Work continues to close the gap and complete the cable stay installation. We only have 1 remaining cable to install” as stated in CCLEX Facebook page.
The 30-million project was an infrastructure project proposal in 2014 under the Aquino administration and now has been nearing to its completion. Aiming to decongest traffic issues, provide faster link, and also “open greater economic opportunities for Cebu and the rest of the Visayas region”, the bridge is set to be opened to motorists by March 18, 2022.
Moreover, the bridge is said to cater 400-cc and above vehicles serving at least 50,000 vehicles on a daily basis. A 1.5-meter pedestrian and bike lanes were also designated on both sides of the bridge. “CCLEX has a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour (kph) and a navigational clearance or height of 51 meters to allow large vessels to pass underneath the bridge…it will be using a full electronic toll system to enable faster traffic flow and seamless travel.”
CCLEX, adorned with the iconic eight (8) crosses, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) and in partnership with the City of Cebu and the Municipality of Cordova.
Recently, this beaut has been making rounds online, as Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Steffi Aberasturi from Cebu Province used the bridge as her runway which ultimately led her winning the “Runway Challenge” and now gained popularity across social media platforms.
Cebuanos are all the more excited to witness the work coming to fruition and experience the beauty of this brand-new feat.
