With the ongoing liquor ban in the city, some resto-bars have been ordered to temporarily cease operations due to non-compliance with the guidelines stated in the recently issued Executive Order 143 by the city government.
One of the guidelines include the need for bar owners to secure special permit from the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) and as much as possible to hire fully vaccinated workers.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy director for operations of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said on Monday that the said resto bars can re-operate once the guidelines are followed.
However, disagreements and concerns transpired as some workers renounced the idea of getting jab due to their beliefs. Owners are also finding it difficult especially that the said order also needs to consider the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Advisory 03-21 which states that “any employee who refuses or fails to be vaccinated shall not be discriminated against in terms of tenure, promotion, training, pay and other benefits or terminated from employment.
Parilla added that drinking liquors in public areas is still restricted and moreover will have the police team continue with the inspection along the streets for any possible gatherings.
Meanwhile, Cebu City Councilor Garganera, head of the Emergency Operations Center said that apart from the vaccination requirements for workers, business establishments must ensure proper ventilation to stop possible transmission of the virus.
These undertakings are part of the government’s vision to ease economic pains amid the ongoing challenge of Covid-19 in the country.
